We’ve come across this begging question a few times in the last month and we want to share with you what we have learned about the infamous, Donate Now button on your event website…

We can all agree that any occassion to make a donation to your cause is considered a favorable time. To make things simpler for our clients, the Donate Now button guarantees a chance to increase donations right on the spot. You can do it at the touch of a button while your alone, or, you can utilize it up on stage in front of your crowd.

What WEDO Suggests’:

Depending on your audience, one of these options may work more than the other. If you choose to use the Donate Now button after a Fund-a-Need portion of your event, you can utilize our user-friendly Donation Thermometer Display to engage the audience in a real-time donation session. By displaying the Thermometer, this can give your guests’ a visual while donations are taking place. If you have a specific goal for funds raised at your event, this is a great option to utilize.

5 Ways to Promote Your Fundraising Event

Ok. You decided that you are going to put together a fundraising event. You know that you want to raise a lot of money for a great cause and you want a wonderful outcome for attendance, but now you have to make it happen! There are a variety of different stages of planning that need to be completed in order to have a successful fundraiser. From the location to the food & beverage to how to entice people, etc. If you’re new to event planning (or even if you’re not) it can be overwhelming trying to put a big fundraiser together all while raising awareness so people will actually come to the event. Well, not to worry. We have narrowed down the top 5 ways to promote your fundraising event to make sure you have a full house!

Social Media: It’s no secret that social media is taking over the internet in strides. If you don’t already have a Facebook page for your Cause/Organization, then making one would be an A+ idea. More and more people are turning to Facebook to send out invitations to events than sending it via mail. Once you have a Facebook page setup, start posting daily reminders and information regarding your event, it will be sure to grab attention and get people talking.

Print Advertising: It’s time to get some coverage! Send out some key information about your fundraiser that you want to get out to the public to your local newspapers and magazines. Think outside of the box on how to cover every important detail of your event. Do you have big name sponsors? What cause does your fundraiser benefit? Be sure to mention these fine points to your audience.

Flyers: If your fundraiser is not invite-only then flyers could be very beneficial to spread the word. It may be 2016, but print advertising is still in style. Post your flyers in popular destinations throughout the area to create a buzz about your event. To really direct attention to your flyer, using bright colors and highlighting what the fundraiser is about would be a good way to start.

Powerful Partnerships: The more connections you make in your efforts to promote your event, the more success you will have with expanding your audience. If you have speakers coming to your event, make sure to let people know! Think locally when finding a partnership that way you can engage your community that much more.

Photography/Video: A photograph says a million words. Well, if that’s true then a video says a billion! Spread the word about your fundraiser by means of photos and videos posted on the web. Photographs can be used to document important details about your event. For videos, think outside of the box. Your videos don’t necessarily have to be professionally done, sometimes a short clip taken with an iPhone will get the same results. Both photos & videos can be a very useful tool if done correctly.

Indianapolis WNBA Gets Involved With Nonprofit

Tamika Catchings, the star of the WNBA’s Indiana Fever, created the Catch the Stars Foundation in 2004. This foundation empowers the youth to achieve their dreams by incorporating goal-setting programs which promote literacy, fitness, and youth development. Tamika & the Catch the Stars Foundation just recently had their 10th Annual Back to School Celebration this past July and it was a huge success.

During the Back to School Celebration event, over 500 local youth in Indiana are able to receive backpacks, school supplies, and a fun community fair to participate in. Since most of the children at the event are unfortunately not able to afford the items, such an event is invaluable. Without the help of Tamkia and the Catch the Stars Foundation as well as all the donations, these 500+ kids coming to the event would have much less in their hands today.

Social Media in the Nonprofit Industry

Nonprofit organizations have simply embraced technology and social media. Creativity is key. It’s especially important for nonprofits to get creative on their social sites because there is so much competition within the social media world. Social media will contiue to have grand impacts with the nonprofit industry and should be levereged and utilitzed as a top priority.

Charity Spotlight: Meals on Wheels of Hamilton County

Meals on Wheels of Hamilton County supports individuals who are elderly, disabled and homebound by delivering nutritious meals, reducing hunger, improving health, and promoting independence.

MOWHC is focused on one service, providing nutritious meals to those in the Hamilton County community who are not able to provide for themselves. One or two balanced meals, depending on the individual’s need, are delivered Monday through Friday to Hamilton County residents who are enrolled in the meal service. Meals are delivered by compassionate volunteers who provide socialization and conduct a welfare check to observe for any unusual symptoms or signs of distress that may require medical attention or notification of a family member or caregiver. Additionally, volunteers often identify other special needs that clients may have which are referred to other partner social service agencies within the Good Samaritan Network in Hamilton County.

In 2013 alone, they assisted more than 400 people which totaled to about 54k meals. That’s a lot of meals!

LLS Indiana Chapter recently had an event in August with WEDO and together we raised almost $20,000 for LLS. This event was such a success. We look forward to working with LLS again to promote awareness and help find cures. Someday is today.

HOW TO BE A SUCCESSFUL NONPROFIT

What makes an effective nonprofit:

Do you want your organization to reach its goals? That is the case for all nonprofits.. but how does one stand out & achieving their objectives with limited resources? After researching why many nonprofits are successful, 6 questions came to mind that every nonprofit must answer if they want to succeed. After taking a look at these questions, you will be able to see exactly what your organization needs to be able to be victorious in your goal setting.

1) Are you flexible / Will you make the adjustments that need to be made? Many organizations receive information that informs them on changes that need to be made but rarely are those changes actually done. Feedback is important; take it all in and put it to use.

2) Are you using your creativity to the best of its ability? With high competition for donors, volunteers and donations, how will you separate your nonprofit organization from the rest? Creativity is endless, use your efforts to stand out from the pack! Your organization must find different ways to reach & engage with people, inform one another, and make others feel genuinely special to be a part of (or giving back to) such a great nonprofit.

3) Are you using your volunteers, employees and/or board of directors effectively? Do your members of the organization know your vision and how to bring it to life? Being well-informed in an organization is key. Having exceptional leadership and communication skills is necessary to run any organization at an effective level. Learning what skill sets each person in your organization is best at is important. Once this is figured out, those individuals & their skills can positively impact the team. Take the time to get to know everyone, and once the skills are known, ensure that they are being put to use and are helping the organization achieve its mission and goals.

4) Is a strategy being utilized? Are you having meetings to plan your organization’s next move and anticipating those potential obstacles and figuring out how to overcome them? Many nonprofits are unable to succeed because they lack strategic planning. You must take the time to create a plan which includes future obstacles and how to face them. Planning ahead of time is always important.

5) Are you frequently analyzing and evaluation your organizations efforts? After your organization goes through step 4 and creates that strategic plan, you have to remember to analyze and evaluate. Looking at the results and deciding how to modifying the plan will be a key with helping your organization grow and stay motivated. A company cannot change if they don’t have a system in place to evaluate those necessary changes.

6) Are you continually building relationships with your donors & volunteers? Keep building relationships and growing your network. Since donors and volunteers give up their time/money, building your relationships and trust with one another is key. People are always more apt to help if they have a great relationship with that person or organization. Let people know about the success about your nonprofit and ask for their input; let them know you care. Nonprofits should not only build relationships after the event has occurred/ donations are given, but rather keep in contact with these people all year long.

WEDO Charity Auctions Accepts the 2015 ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is back! We had ALS themselves come on over to us for the 2015 ALS Ice Bucket Challenge today and boy was it a (chilly) success! To those of you who don’t know, we are going to do a quick recap on what the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is and why it’s important.

    • What is ALS? ALS which stands for, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, is a disease that affects both the spinal cord & nerve cells in the brain. While it does not have a cure yet, the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge will continue every August until a cure is found! #EveryAugustUntilACure.

When did the Ice Bucket Challenge begin? The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge began last summer in 2014 and became the world’s largest social media phenomenon, literally. From Facebook & Instagram videos  (insert our Instagram link) of celebrities icing one another to making a splash at your place of work, the Ice Bucket Challenge went viral.  Now, the major focus for the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is continuing to have it go viral every August until a cure. That way, we can all preserve, continue to promote the cause, and hopefully have a cure found for it SOON!

How do you participate? The steps are simple:

    • 1. ACCEPT the challenge
    • 2. RECORD the Ice Bucket Challenge to raise awareness
    • 3. UPLOAD to social media & nominate friends to participate
    • 4. GIVE a donation to support ALS
